Welcome to the Coaches Page of NSW Squash

This section is aimed to keep coaches informed about upcoming courses, exchanging coaching tips and professional development.

There are a number of coach education courses running this year including an updating course, as well as Level 1 courses in Sydney, a Level 2 course on the Gold Coast in May and the National Conference at the AIS in Canberra in November.

This section of the web site is also set aside for coaches to exchange ideas, information, ask questions and "have-a-say" about Squash coaching in general. Also, from time to time articles will be posted on the site on new ideas in coaching or in some cases just revisiting good coaching practices.

Upcoming Events:

Squash Australia National Coaching Conference and Dinner

The most important event to put on your coach’s calendar for 2010 is the Squash Australia National Coaching Conference. To be held at the Australian Institute of Sport, November 12 – 14. This conference is open to all Squash Coaches who wish to expand their knowledge and meet other coaches from around Australia and overseas.

There are early bird savings as well. To register or for further information please contact the National Coaching Manager, Jeffrey Wollstein, at the Squash Australia Office on phone +61 7 3367 3200 or e-mail jeffrey.wollstein@squash.org.au

Updated information on the Conference will be posted to the Squash Australia website at: http://www.squash.org.au Just click on "Coaches" in the top row menu on the home page

Level 1 Courses

The dates for the Level 1 Squash Coach’s courses for 2010 are May 1-2 and October 30-31. These will run at a venue in Sydney (TBA). Other Level 1 courses can be organised in regional centres if you have 8+ people (over the age of 16) willing to participate. Contact NSW Squash or myself for more details.

To do a Level 1 course register with NSW Squash. Before doing the Squash Coaching course, go online and complete the coaching principles worksheet. Go to https://sao.ausport.gov.au/ follow the links to the coach’s section - Sports Accreditation Online. Once you have finished the General Principles worksheets you will receive a certificate. Print this certificate out and bring it to the course you register for. This is mandatory for anyone wishing to be an accredited coach in Australia.

Coaching Update Workshop

June 12-13 we plan to hold an Updating Workshop in Sydney for anyone who holds a Squash Coaching accreditation. This would be ideal for anyone not planning to go to the National Conference and for those who can it will be an additional professional development opportunity.Any Squash coaches who would like to present at this course should contact me before April and outline what area they would like to present. The majority of the course will be on-court training.

Level 2 Course

Normally Level 2 courses only run every 2 years but over the last few years there has been a growing demand for higher qualifications and more frequent delivery of Level 2 Training Programs. The next Level 2 Course is planned to be conducted on the Gold Coast (northern end), 12-16 May 2010. An advertising Flyer has been posted up on the Squash Australia website Coaches>Coaching Courses>Level 2 Coach Training Programs.  A Registration Form is also available to download.

Attached on their website is an updated list of Level 2 Accreditation Requirements. Details about the Intermediate General Principles are posted up on the website as well.

There are already 10 Level 1 coaches who have "expressed an interest" to attend the next course. Any other interested coaches should download the Registration Form and post/fax back to Squash Australia asap Fax: 07 3367 3320.

This section of the NSW Squash web-site is for coaches and will be better for all of us if it is interactive. So, if you are a registered Squash coach and wish to submit an article, have an issue you wish to discuss with other qualified coaches or have any suggestion about what else you would like to see added to this section, please send me an email.
