The changes have been primarily made due to member’s requests at the recent District Meetings.

Below are Frequently Asked Questions to the Administrator. Note in particular new rules that are bold and underlined.   The By-Laws are available in the Pennant Book and also on the www.nswsquash.com.au website (Sydney Pennant link.)

Also note that the Competition Handbook will be issued once a year (Autumn Pennant). The Spring Pennant information will be issued in loose leaf format that can also be downloaded from the www.nswsquash.com.au website (Sydney Pennant link.)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAN MEN PLAY IN WOMENS COMP AND WOMEN PLAY IN MENS COMP?

3.2.9       A player may play for more than one club but only if the clubs are in different Sydney Districts. Exception: Women players who are currently playing in the Women’s competitions may also play in the men’s team in the men’s competition. Women playing in the Men’s Competition must play a minimum of 6 matches in the Women’s competition.

3.2.10     Men players may play in the District Women’s competition, but a maximum of 2 men only per women’s team per round applies. Ladies teams must have minimum of 2 ladies playing on the night.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN WE RESERVE FOR A TEAM UP OR DOWN?

4.3.1       DISTRICT DIVISIONS: A district player may not play more than seven (7) matches in a higher and/or lower grade without penalty. If that player then plays eight (8) or more matches, that player and the team will receive no points for that rubber. Those points will be awarded to the opposing team.

Can other players in your team play twice on the night?

4.3.2       In District Divisions a player may play a position up as well as their own e.g. No. 4 can play at No. 3, No. 3 can also play at No 2 and No 2 can play at No. 1. A higher player can not play lower e.g. No. 2 can not play No. 3 etc, This applies only to District Division, not Major Grades and is only permitted for round matches, not for final or grand final matches. After a rubber has commenced, a player must not stop playing in that rubber and play a rubber in any other position. This will be treated as a forfeit for all the rubbers concerned.

4.4.3       In Major Grades a player may play in one rubber only in the same match.

I NEED A RESERVE. WHO CAN I ASK?

DISTRICT DIVISION RESERVE RULE.

4.3.3       District Division Matrix Reserve rule: Teams may get a reserve who has the SAME matrix or LESS from ANY team in YOUR club to replace your unavailable player. Exception: Clubs with one or two teams only may apply to the Administrator for approval to have a “sister club” nominating team’s to use as a reserve pool. Reserves must play in matrix order within the team. E.g. If your No. 2 with a matrix of 160.38 is out on the night you may find a reserve to replace him with 160.38 or LESS to play at No. 2 or if your No. 3 has a bigger matrix than your reserve then this player moves up and the reserve plays at No 3. This allows teams to use the matrix to find the reserve player.

This rule applies to Round matches only. (Refer By-Law 4.3.4 for District Division Final and Grand Final Reserve requests)

MAJOR GRADE RESERVE RULE.

4.3.5       Major Grade Matrix Reserve rule: No player shall be permitted to play in more than one team in the same section of a grade, except in the case of reserves called up from lower grades.

Major Grade teams may get a reserve who has the SAME matrix or LESS from ANY team in ANY club, from any grade/division BELOW, to replace the unavailable player. However, this reserve must play in matrix order within the team. e.g. If your No. 2 with a matrix of 160.38 is out on the night you may find a reserve to replace him with 160.38 or LESS to play at No. 2 or if your No. 3 has a bigger matrix than your reserve then this player moves up and the reserve plays at No. 3. This allows teams to use the matrix to find the reserve player.

This rule applies to Round matches only. (Refer By-Law 4.10.4 for Major Grades Final and Grand Final Reserve requests).

CAN WE BORROW PLAYERS FROM OTHERS CLUBS TO RESERVE FOR US?

4.3.3       District Division Matrix Reserve rule: Teams may get a reserve who has the SAME matrix or LESS from ANY team in YOUR club to replace your unavailable player. Exception: Clubs with one or two teams only may apply to the Administrator for approval to have a “sister club” nominating team’s to use as a reserve pool. Reserves must play in matrix order within the team.

I need a reserve for Final Series?

4.3.4       DISTRICT DIVISION FINAL AND GRAND FINAL RESERVE RULE: The reserve’s matrix must be equal to or lower than your number four registered player in your team, and come in at the bottom in right matrix order so you are not strengthening the team.

All reserves for both the Final and Grand Final matches must be requested in writing on the prescribed form* and approved by the Pennant Administrator.

*              The Final and Grand Final Reserve Request Form is available on the www.nswsquash.com.au (Sydney Pennant link).

4.10.4     Reserves for Major Grades may only be taken from grades below. For Final and Grand Final matches, only original registered team members are eligible unless written authorisation is obtained from the Administrator. All reserves for both the Final and Grand Final matches must be requested in writing on the prescribed form* and approved by the Pennant Administrator.

*              The Final and Grand Final Reserve Request Form is available on the www.nswsquash.com.au website (Sydney Pennant link).

DO WE LOSE MATRIX POINTS IF WE FORFEIT OR GETS INJURED?

“International Rules of Squash”. Once a match has commenced the player who forfeits will lose the match and result recorded on the matrix.

4.4.5       Where a forfeit occurs, “forfeit” is to be written on the result sheet instead of the name of the player who forfeited, and the opposing player is to be recorded as winning the match.

An * should be recorded in the box where the initials are entered on the matrix when entering results.

Matrix will not be affected in this case.

NOTE:    FORFEIT FINES WILL BE IMPOSED THIS SEASON. THERE IS NO EXCUSE GIVEN THE RANGE OF RULES THAT ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR RESERVING.

Forfeits: $30 per player forfeited, $120 per team, $200 per team for rounds 14 and 15.

If a player’s name is written on the result sheet this is a statement that the player played or attempted to play that match.  Matrix points will be affected in this case.

HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU NEED TO PLAY TO QUALIFY FOR FINAL SERIES?

DISTRICT DIVISIONS.

4.8   ELIGIBILITY FOR FINALS AND GRAND FINALS

4.8.1       Any player who has played with the team at least 6 times during the competition shall be eligible.

4.8.2       Byes – only one (1) bye will count as a match played.

The initial Rating on the Matrix table is only applied to a player once at the start of their playing life. The exception would be if:

Registered Players may request an adjustment to their Matrix Rating to their own Club Administrator, who will decide if the request is warranted and then forward the request form* to the Pennant Administrator for consideration and processing.
