A Squash Court has Landed in Martin Place and it's Open to Play

Published Tue 21 Apr 2026

If you're in the CBD this week, you'll see something unexpected in Martin Place.

A squash court.

Not behind closed doors. Not tucked away. A transparent Perspex demo-sized squash court, set up in the middle of the city and open from 7am to 7pm each day.

And it’s not just there to be watched.

It’s there to be played.

Over five days, Martin Place is being transformed into a pop-up squash venue, bringing a traditionally indoor sport into one of Sydney’s busiest public spaces in the CBD. With squash set to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, Just Squash It gives people the chance to see and experience the sport in a completely different setting.

For Those Who've Never Tried It

You don’t need to know the rules. You don’t need to bring anything. And you don’t need to be good at it.

You can stop, pick up a racquet, and step on court.

The format is simple: short, supported sessions designed to get you moving quickly. Most people are rallying within minutes.

Across the week, there are free public sessions, coaching opportunities, and live demonstrations running throughout the day, all designed to make it easy to get involved.

If you’ve ever been curious about squash, this is the easiest way to experience it.

For Those Who Already Know the Sport

If you play, you’ll feel it immediately.

The pace. The pressure. The instinct to chase down one more shot.

But this time, it’s out in the open, with people stopping mid-commute to watch, ask questions, and step on court for the first time.

This is the game you know, and it needs to be seen.

Jump on court, set the tone, and show what the sport looks like when it’s played live, up close, and in full view of the CBD.

Where Watching Becomes Playing

It happens quickly.

You stop to watch a rally, get a feel for the game, and then step on court yourself. The format is simple and the sessions run throughout the day, so there’s always an opportunity to get involved.

You don’t need to plan for it. You just step in.

Alongside the public sessions, the week also features corporate and community matches, bringing different parts of the squash community together and adding to the energy on court throughout the day.

Bring Someone With You

If you already play, bring someone who doesn’t.

A colleague. A friend or family member who’s always said they might give it a go.

This is the easiest introduction they’ll get, and the best way to show them what the sport actually feels like.

Step On Court

The Just Squash It court is open all day.

Before work.
During lunch.
On your way home.

You don’t need to plan for it.
You don’t need to prepare.

Just stop, step in, and have a hit.

Martin Place.
This week.
